Work Opportunites For The Physically Challenged

YAKKUM Bali has been working with a number of local businesses, asking them to hire more people with disabilities. PT Billabong had five of YAKKUM’s clients in Karangasem working on tshirt orders in 2008. Currently four of their clients are now working with PT GEHA Intri Citra Denpasar and CV. Bali Citra Planting Sanur. In order to prepare those with disabilities to join the formal workforce, in 2009 YAKKUM Bali is training eleven clients by enrolling them in short courses. YAKKUM BALI provides soft skill training in self-development, motivation, entering the work force, interviewing skills, finance and home economics. The Hard Skills include computer skills, English and other skills that are needed for their specific line of work.

YAKKUM was able to place three of their clients in five star hotels: The Hard Rock, the Melia Benoa and the Kartika Plaza. This was a result of VSO Volunteer Jenny assisting Field Coordinator Made Gunung and Field Officer Gusti Ayu Arti in finding places for these physically challenged young people to work. Two of YAKKUM’s clients were also sent to YAKKUM’s sister organization in Jogja to participate in a Beauty Salon course.
