Yakeba established Bali’s first drug rehabilitation centre in 2000. The centre was closed in 2005 due to a lack of funding. During its operation, Yakeba helped more than 200 drug addicts achieve “sobriety” ~ i.e. live a life free of drugs and alcohol.
Yakeba opened a new 6-bed drug rehabilitation centre – called Mawar Biru – in January 2009 with funding from YKIP/ALF. Many recovered addicts now live normal lives and many are to be found working in non-government organizations across Indonesia.
To date, the centre has helped 13 drug addicts on their journey to recovery; and some of them have been able to remain “clean” and are living normal lives.
