On September 7th, 2007 YKIP held a painting competition for the Gianyar KEMBALI sponsored children. We thought only about 50 kids would sign up but we had 129 step up to the pastels! It was quite the group effort. The field staff at GNOTA (our government partner) let all the children know about the competition and procured the Sidan Stage as the venue for free (set against terraced ricefields it was perfect for inspiration!); YKIP organized snacks, lunch, the purchasing of art supplies and games to get the kids up and moving about; Matt Thorpe of RESET and Gilbert Quek and Pamela Goh of Dream Digital in Singapore happened to be in town and took fabulous photographs, including photos of the 19 winning paintings that were then uploaded to a website and then downloaded by Bali Contemporary Arts, who made the paintings in a 2008 calendar (www.balicontemporaryarts.com) to sell to make money for more kids to go to school in YKIP’s KEMBALI program. |
