In 2004, Heidi started a project with YKIP with eight young girls whom she and 7 of her friends were (and still are) sponsoring to go to primary school. She had them paint a picture for their sponsors which Heidi took home to them. Heidi photographed the girls and made a Mac-book out of it, which she then showed to all her friends, family and colleagues.
The following year, Heidi returned with three of the donors and sponsorships for 23 children!
This time she and YKIP created the KEMBALI PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT (see http://www.ykip.org/projects_photo.asp) whereby the children were taught how to use a disposable camera and asked to take pictures of everyday life in their compound. These photos were then printed and made into individual albums, again to take home to the sponsors (and another album made for each child to take home).
In 2006, 29 sponsored children, three different sponsors and the YKIP team went to the Bali Bird Park and Puri Lukisan Museum for fun and a picnic, again taking photos of the children that they then made into a thank you card to take home.
In December 2007, once again Heidi came with yet another four donors. This time, armed with non-toxic paints in rainbows of colors, we had the children paint their own t-shirts and visors (brought over from the US) and make cards for their sponsors. We are now up to 54 kids in the Heidi Circle alone!
The sponsors in the Heidi Circle are committed to seeing the children through Senior High School and maybe even university. YKIP is honored to be able to work with Heidi and her ever-expanding circle.
