Local priests assisting with the cleansing ceremony at Jimbaran on November 5, 2005. The Balinese believe that by offering the spirits of chaos (bhuta kala) specific offerings and by cleansing the site of an accident/disaster with the sprinking of holy water and other offerings, that the world will regain its balance.

Sugama and Friends from Printing Mas Comedy Troupe performed a special show about being traumatized and depression. They encouraged the audience to seek counseling from the Kanaivasu Counseling Post located behind the cafes that were bombed in Jimbaran.

On October l, 2005 three bombs exploded in Kuta and Jimbaran, Bali, killing 23 people and injuring over a hundred. The devastation was not as extensive as the bombs of 2002, but the emotional and economic impact cannot yet be measured.
YKIP is committed to assisting the bomb victims by giving them the medical care they need (outside of what the Indonesian and Australian governments have provided, which is substantial and perhaps sufficient); providing educational scholarships for the children of those e bomb victims who would have difficulty paying for their children's education; and helping with mental health programs.
With the very generous support of Mark Weingard and the Annika Linden Foundation (www.alfoundation.org), YKIP was able to begin supporting projects soon after the tragedy occurred.
The major projects being supported at this time are:
- Trauma Counseling (working with Kanaivasu Foundation-click here for details)
- Wayang Kulit Trauma Counseling Project (working with the Indonesian Red Cross Bali Branch and Kanaivasu-click here)
- Reimbursement for victim support costs incurred by IDEP Foundation -click here
- Victim Needs Assessment (working in conjunction with the Indonesian Red Cross and the POSKO Crisis Centre)-click here
As time goes on, we will have a better idea of what is needed and where we can best put our energies.
It is already clear that the bombs have once again devastated people's hopes for a stabilized economy. Coupled with the 126% increase in petrol on October 1, 2005, this will surely mean many more people will fall below the poverty line, translating to more children dropping out of school. This is where YKIP can use your help in supporting children in the KEMBALI program. It costs very little to school a child for six years.
Please take a moment to look at the KEMBALI webpage.
To all of you who have already donated to YKIP, we thank you.
