THE RESET EVENT NOVEMBER 2007

RESET is a Broking company whose managing director, Mark Weingard, has supported YKIP for 5 years. They decided to hold their annual meeting in Ubud from November 8 – 11, 2008, and visit some of the projects they have funded.

The RESET team was joined by three members of ICAP, the largest broking company in the world (and shareholders in RESET) as well as one of the RESET customers.

RESET and YKIP visited YAKEBA’s Narcotics and HIV/AIDS Awareness Program at a local Junior High School on Serangan Island. At the end of the session, students were quizzed on what they had learned and given out prizes (all of them were right!).

The children at Sushrusa Playgroup created colorful necklaces for us and then danced and sang. We toured the LUMINA facilities, saw how they test the childrens’ hearing and then a number of the RESET and ICAP people were presented with hand-painted eggs as souvenirs.

We trekked up to the East Bali Poverty Project (8 hours in vehicles!) where we saw a drawing and karate class and Director David Booth gave us a powerpoint presentation on all the work they are doing up there. We witnessed the first students to graduate from JuniorHigh School. Julian and Ildi Cohen donated art supplies for each and every student, and as there are a large number of artists here, It was the perfect gift.

The group then went back down the mountain to YAKKUM Bali in Amlapura. The Denpasar group had brought up their entire prosthesis workshop to show their donors how they make them and the braces they provide to the disabled. We were treated to a gamelan orchestra performance on arrival. At this outreach station, YAKKUM BALI teaches sewing, computer skills, traditional umbrella making and handicrafts.

We had taught the RESET team an Indonesian song “We love it here, there and everywhere!” which they sang at two of the venues, and soon had everybody chiming in.

After seeing all the projects, RESET put on a gala dinner with representatives from all the projects and all YKIP staff and board members attending. A jolly time was had by all.
