The famous Hard Rock Café on Kuta Beach has
donated the proceeds of the October 22nd Charity Concert
at the café held for victims of the Bali bombing
tragedy to the Yayasan Kemanusiaan Ibu Pertiwi (YKIP)
- Humanitarian Action for Mother Earth.
Handing over a cheque today for Rp30 million ($US3,300)
to the Foundation, Hard Rock Café’s Ibu
Fonnyta Amran said the Hard Rock Café had chosen
YKIP because of the excellent work the Foundation has
been doing to alleviate human suffering caused by the
October 12th bombings and because of its long term goals
to upgrade the medical and hospital facilities available
on Bali.
Sincerely thanking all those who supported the Hard
Rock Café Charity Concert, Ibu Fonnyta Amran
said the sight of 150 people holding candles with heads
bowed in prayer in the middle of a rock concert at the
Hard Rock Cafe that night went a long way to restoring
everyone’s faith in the fundamental goodness of
their fellow human beings.
Accepting the cheque from Hard Rock Cafe, YKIP Founder,
Ibu Ari Murti also thanked everyone who had so generously
supported the charity night at the Cafe and pledged
to see that their financial contributions were put to
good use in the planned upgrading of medical and hospital
facilities on Bali.
A high priority for the YKIP is to raise funds to build
a Trauma Center attached to a major hospital in Bali.
For many years leading Balinese plastic surgeon Dr Anak
Agung Ngurah Asmarajaya has dreamed of building a specialist
trauma unit in Bali. But the funds were not available
for his vision so on October 12th he faced this massive
medical crisis using little more than the heroic efforts
of the hospital's staff.
Dr Asmarajaya says perhaps as many as 10 more lives
could have been saved if the proposed Trauma Centre
had been available to treat victims of the Bali bombing.
Other YKIP initiatives include the production of a
30-minute Trauma Counseling video for the Balinese community
utilising the medium of traditional Wayang Kulit shadow
puppet theatre; a Bali Children’s Fund to provide
money specifically to enhance educational opportunities
for children who have lost a parent (or had a parent
permanently incapacitated) in the October 12th bombing
and assisting the Balinese Health Authorities to ensure
that all donated medicines are distributed to those
who most need them in an effective and timely manner.
YKIP will serve as a permanent and fitting memorial
to the men and women who lost their lives or were so
badly injured in this terrible disaster. Their loss
will not be in vain.
