An Oven For Legs
YAKKUM has been been making protheses for years. It used to take two weeks to make a leg and the client would have to have a number of fittings to ensure the fit. Now that is all in the past.
With funding from ALF, YAKKUM has purchased a Polyetheline Prosthesis Making Oven (made in Indonesia) that cuts the time down to 2-3 days. The client has the leg custom made to his/her body and can spend the night at YAKKUM until the fittings are done and wear it home! The legs are much lighter and more flexible than the old ones. Master prosthetist Ketut Nesa spent several weeks in Java learning this new technique.
