YKIP’s mission to improve the medical facilities on the island of Bali has found a perfect niche at the Udayana State University (UNUD) Medical School. The Medical Reference and Education Centre (MREC) that YKIP and ALF provided and equipped at UNUD is designed to provide students and faculty with better access to information in Medical Science.
MREC was created at the instigation of Dr. Carlo Forzinetti, an Italian heart surgeon and resident of Bali who is a member of the YKIP board. In 2005, Dr. Denise Abe, an American physician living in Bali, joined the team.
MREC was established with joint funding by YKIP and the Annika Linden Foundation and was officially inaugurated by Mark Weingard, David Magson (head of the YKIP Management Board), Totok Sudarmanta (YKIP treasurer), Prof. Dr. Ketut Sueta, Sp. MK., Ph. D (then Dean of the UNUD Medical School) and Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Anom Murdhana, on the 13th of October 2003.
The MREC provides students and medical personnel with better access to current medical information since it is equipped with comprehensive facilities, such as online medical references, the latest editions of health-related books, and ten computers with internet access.
This project has the full support of the current Dean, Prof. Dr. Ketut Suastika, the head of the Public Health Department, Dr. Partha Muliawan; and the head of the Medical English Department, Dr.Putu Sutisna.
