Bali Bombing 2005

On October 1st, 2005 three more bombs exploded in Kuta and Jimbaran, killing four Bali-residing Indonesians and injuring many more. From those killed, I Wayan Sudika left behind his widow, Ni Wayan Sudeni and daughter, Cantika, one year old at the time.

YKIP stepped in to provide educational support for the 27 Balinese children from 18 families who were victims of the outrage in Jimbaran and Kuta. In all but one case, they were the children of parents who were injured, not killed.

In 2006, The Quiksilver Charity Event gave YKIP over US $20,000 for the 2005 bomb victims which has been used for Putu Swadesi’s rehabilitation costs. Putu was a baby sitter for a family who lost two members in the bomb and she was brutally hit by shrapnel which left her nearly paralyzed. With intensive physical therapy by Ketut Putrawan and acupuncture by Nyoman, coupled with operations and therapy at ...... HOSPITAL she has made an amazing recovery. These funds were also used for upgrading of skills courses (please see here for details) and a no-interest loan program for those victims who wanted to develop an existing or open up a new business.

We work together with other foundations to help the victims of the Bali bombs. The support has come from many sources, including the Singapore Rugby Club, the Hong Kong Club, Annika Linden Foundation, the Manningham Rotary Club, Quiksilver Charity Event, PT. Courts Indonesia, Mitrais and others.
