Bali Bombing 2002

When the bombs went off late at night on October 12, 2002, the world was devastated. Bali had become synonymous with a peaceful way of life and that had been shattered.

Funds poured in from all over the world into many charities on and off Bali; one of these was YKIP which was set up only six days after the day to facilitate this. These monies were used initially to evacuate and treat the injured Indonesians as well as to sort through and distribute all the donated medicines.

The Annika Linden Foundation donated $100,000 to be used for the bomb survivors and scores of organizations, schools and individuals sent in funds as well see

An official apothecary was set up in the offices of Mitrais in Tuban with an Indonesian pharmacist. Volunteers from Mitrais sorted through all the donated medicines (many of them inappropriate for burns victims or expired) and distributed them among the hospitals and clinics on the island.

After the initial chaos, a sense of order was finally restored and YKIP and Bali Hati Foundation remained committed to the victims and survivors.

YKIP is grateful to all the volunteers (many of whom sit on our board) and donors who have helped change the lives of so many whose lives were changed forever on that fateful night.
