From 2004-2010, the ALF and other donors funded programs for the hearing impaired through CV LUMINA, a hearing clinic in Denpasar. Beginning in July 2010, the ALF began funding BaliHears, a new project under the management of Dr. Bulan Trisna Djelantik, an ENT doctor who is also a WHO Consultant. Read more...

When YKIP/ALF first started working with CV LUMINA on a hearing project, it was limited to providing students at the Special Needs Schools for the Hearing Impaired with hearing aids and hearing aid support. This grew into an Infant Screening Program at Bali’s major hospitals, and a Sushrusa playgroup and kindergarten for the Hearing Impaired at Lumina.

Sound as a Pound

For ALF Founder/Director Mark Weingard’s birthday in 2010, he decided he wanted to pledge 500 new hearing aids to YKIP’s BaliHears program. Using the power of the internet and Facebook, he sent out an appeal to his friends. Within ten days, his goal had been reached and funds were pledged so that we can purchase 1,000 brand new hearing aids. These aids will be used for impoverished children and elders on Bali. We would like to thank Mark for his untold generosity and all of his friends for a wonderful birthday gift: the gift of hearing.

This project is made possible through funding by:

Greg Evans and family of Australia for their monthly donations to help hearing programs.

Chris and Mary Hill of Perth, Australia held a joint Garden Party Fundraiser with ABC Radio and raised funds for the hearing programs.

The Fischer family of Switzerland for sponsoring hearing aids for nine children in the SLBB schools
